Professional counselors & therapists in Soldotna and Homer, who specialize in anger and mood management.

Feelings are a thing.  We all have them.  They are neither good nor bad, in and of themselves, but how we do or don’t handle them can create some difficulties in our world.  Our ability to manage our moods, especially when we have strong emotions, is incredibly important.  Failure to do so can result in huge disruptions. Perhaps that disruption is at your job, when you blow up with your boss or have a hard time taking direction.  Or maybe it’s with your spouse, when you lose your temper with them over little things, even though you don’t want to.

Managing our moods, especially strong feelings of anger, is hard. Creating new habits and patterns of being in the world and in relationships, is hard.  But it is possible, and we have counselors in Soldotna and Homer that are here to help!

Meet our professional therapists experienced with mood management.

What you can expect during anger and mood management counseling?

Our KPMH providers are skilled at supporting people in achieving their identified goals and making real and lasting change. Your provider will work with you to provide brain education around why you do what you do, and will support you in creating new habits and patterns of relating.  Coping skills and mood management techniques will be taught and utilized, and growth and change will be identified and reinforced.

Though our feelings are absolutely connected to our thoughts, our providers know that emotional experiences, such as strong feelings of anger, also show up in our bodies.  You and your provider will work together to tune into your physiological experience of anger and gather information that will inform how you can best manage your triggers.

At KPMH, you can expect a comprehensive approach to treat the anger and mood management issues you’re dealing with.  You and your provider will work together to understand not just how to manage the symptoms, but to address their root cause. Effectively and comprehensively addressing anger and other mood management difficulties with KPMH providers may include, but is not limited to:

  • Psychoeducation and brain based science to help you understand what’s happening with your emotions on a physiological level.

  • Coping skills to support you in managing your anger when it arises.

  • Ongoing discussion and evaluation of lifestyle choices that may be contributing to or exacerbating your mood fluctuations and experience of anger. Areas of exploration may include:

    • Sleep

    • Diet/Nutrition

    • Supplementation

    • Play

    • Time in nature

    • Self care

  • Exploration and treatment of life events or unresolved traumas that may be at the root of the mood management and anger difficulties you experience.

  • A practical and effective self-care plan to support you in staying ahead of your mood fluctuations.

Can professional mood management counseling really help?

If the challenges identified above sound like you, or anyone you know, and are keeping you or yours from experiencing life fully, and with a sense of calm, clarity and connection, counseling may be helpful. Our providers in Soldotna and Homer are going to work with and for you to understand and treat not only the symptoms you’re experiencing, but what might be underlying them. Unresolved trauma, negative patterns of relating to oneself and others, and lack of skills around mood management and regulation, are just a few of the culprits that often fuel mood dysregulation difficulties. Exacerbating factors, such as being chronically under-slept, poor diet, inefficient supplementation, and lack of movement, usually make things worse. Any of that sound familiar? If so, please reach out. We’re here to help, and we would be honored to to come alongside and support you on your journey to emotional health and wellness.

How long does mood management counseling typically last?

The length of time an individual is in counseling is situation specific and can vary. However, we at KPMH are passionate about giving our clients the tools and skills they need to thrive and function well. We will cast a wide net at the onset, looking for all the variables that may be contributing to your mood fluctuations and anger management difficulties. We will build skills for managing symptoms and explore root causes that may be underlying your distress. We will take as little or as much time as you need, but we will do our very best to get you back in control of your moods, and back on track in your life.
