ADD and ADHD books

Difficulty with focus, concentration, attention and body management is more of a challenge in today’s world than ever before.  From the highly processed foods we often eat to the barrage of stimulation afforded to us through technology, there are many outside forces that are impacting the brain and contributing to the rise in ADHD diagnosis.

ADHD is characterized by inattentiveness, hyperactivity or restlessness, disruptive behavior, and poor impulse control.  Children and adults with ADHD often have an inability to focus and are easily distracted, especially when not engaged with a preferred task or activity. Those with ADHD are also often very physically active and have trouble sitting still.

With counseling, most individuals struggling with ADHD symptoms improve. Seeing a mental health professional can help with managing feelings of frustration and the low self esteem that often accompanies this diagnosis. Parents of children suffering from ADHD can also benefit from therapy to help them develop healthy and supportive ways of coping.

If the challenges identified above sound like you, or anyone you know, and are keeping you or yours from experiencing success and functioning at an optimal level in your life, counseling may be helpful. At KPMH, our providers are going to work with and for you to understand and treat not only the symptoms you’re experiencing, but what might be underlying them. Factors like sleep, diet, supplementation, lack of movement, and too much technology time can all exacerbate ADHD symptoms. In addition there is significant overlap between ADHD symptoms and other possible diagnosis. For example, expereinces of trauma, or being chronically underslept, can both manifest similarly to ADHD symptoms. At KPMH, you can trust that you and your provider will work together to get to the bottom of the challenges you’re facing.

KPMH providers take a comprehensive look at mental and emotional health and wellness. Our providers know that there are huge correlations between the brain and the body, and to that end, everything from diet, sleep, and supplementation, to exercise, time outdoors and screen time are going to be apart of the evaluation process. Our providers will cast a wide net at the onset, a strategy that will support evaluation of all of the variables that may be contributing to the identified symptoms.

When treating ADHD symptoms with a KPMH provider, you can expect:

  • Psychoeducation and brain based science to help you understand what’s happening with ADHD symptoms.

  • Coping skills to support you in mind, body and mood management,

  • Ongoing discussion and evaluation of lifestyle choices that may be contributing to or exacerbating your symptoms. Areas of exploration may include:

    • Sleep

    • Diet/ nutrition

    • Supplementation

    • Exercise/Movement

    • Connectedness (time with family, friends)

    • Time in nature

    • Exploration and treatment of negative life events or unresolved traumas that may, or may not, be associated with your ADHD symptoms.

    • A practical and effective self-care plan to support you in increasing and strengthening your capacity to manage your brain and body.

The length of time an individual is in counseling is situation specific and can vary. However, we at KPMH are passionate about giving our clients the tools and skills they need to thrive and function well.  From psychoeducation and brain based science, to skill building and strategies for success, our providers are motivated to get you back in control of your brain and body, and back on track.

How do we move forward with counseling for my ADHD Symptoms?

Ready to get started? Call or email us today. Our contact info is at the bottom of this page.

Once you reach out, one of our Soldotna therapist will contact you to gather information regarding your specific situation.  This process will help us better understand how to support you and assist you in making changes towards your identified goals.

This will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions, and ensure that we are the right fit for you. Here at KPMH, our providers believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential in the process of creating change. These initial conversations are important in assessing fit, as therapy is not “one size fits all.”

Additionally, KPMH uses Simple Practice, a medical record and portal system that will allow for confidential and HIPAA compliant messaging that ensures your privacy. You will be sent a portal link that directs you to online documentation to be completed prior to your initial session.

KPMH’s office is located on the second floor of the Blazy Mall, Suite 202. Feel free to arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled session to grab a cup of tea and relax before meeting with your provider. We look forward to meeting you, and are honored you have chosen us to do this work along side you.
